"My conclusion is that the personal is important, not just for the collective affect of millions of green acts, but for the personal connection to the solution such acts inspire."

Absolutely! One thing No Impact Man said that I take to heart is that the idea that "if each of us does one little thing, everything will be okay" is a dangerous myth. We each must do as much as we can. I still it will not be enough if we don't get our governments involved. But without individual action, who will be inspired to make the bigger steps? Both are necessary.

Thanks so much for posting these ideas. I need to stop staying up late blogging with the light on. Unfortunately, I have a ton to do tonight and will have to start tomorrow.

Thank you for bringing up the Climate bill. We need to remember to act collectively too!

beth - i wonder if we could blog or write by candlelight, would it be hard on the eyes? i was thinking recently how tired my eyes get when i work at night ...

great posts -- the local energy audit is an awesome suggestion, while my house has new windows there are loads of leaks at my doorways and at the older windows.

I think our eyes get tired from staring at the screen. It's ironic. We reach people to live green through our blogs. And yet blogging requires us to use energy and stare at a screen until our eyes get sore. Must find balance somehow.

I don't like the American Clean Energy Security Act for a different reason than some. First it's sponsored by some of the big polluters which is a huge red flag for me. Also I agree with Greenpeace on cap and trade-

With that being said I love how you brought up how others used to live a life with little to no waste. I hope someday we can go back to that. :) This is a great post thanks for bring all of this up!

I agree, Beth. Finding balance is key... I've started, by turning off all electronics on Sundays. I don't even make a phone call (though I'll answer the phone if it rings!). You'd be surprised how much more peaceful the day is...

This was really interesting Jen- it's a great way to teach children to conserve by showing how their ancestors did it.
